The Township of North Stormont is responsible for providing fire fighting services to its residents. In addition, the Township holds mutual aid agreements with adjacent municipalities to ensure that any calls for service are being answered in a timely manner. Through the United Counties of SDG, paramedic and OPP services are provided.
The Township’s Fire Department is fully staffed by volunteer fire fighters. These fire fighters are divided between 4 stations: Avonmore, Crysler, Finch and Moose Creek. The Township also employs a Fire Chief to oversee the management of the four fire stations. For more information on fire services, or to inquire about becoming a volunteer fire fighter, please contact the Fire Chief.
Fire Prevention Officer
The Township utilizes a fire prevention officer to provide information to the public about fire safety and preventing fires. For more information on having the fire prevention officer attend an event for educational purposes, please contact the Township’s Office or the Fire Chief.
Fire Service Water Tanker Shuttle Accreditation
The Township of North Stormont’s Fire Service underwent a water tanker shuttle accreditation in October of 2017. Residents who live more than 300 metres from a water hydrant may be eligible for a reduction in their home insurance due to the Township’s accreditation. A copy of the accreditation is provided below to present to your insurance company.
Open Air Permits
By-law 53-2018 establishes the rules and regulations for property owners to have open air fires. In order to have an open air fire on your property, you must obtain a permit from the Township. Recreational fires that are under 1 square metre do not require an Open Air Permit, however are still required to meet setbacks as established in the By-law. Please contact Nancy-Ann Gauthier, Fire Prevention Officer for further information or to obtain an Open Air Permit.
