Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies are defined as situations or impending situations caused by forces of nature, accident or an intentional act that constitutes a danger of major proportions to life and property.  They affect public safety, meaning the health, welfare and property, as well as the environment and economic health of the Township of North Stormont.

Emergency Preparedness Plan

In order to protect residents, businesses, and visitors, the Township of North Stormont requires a coordinated emergency response by a number of agencies under the direction of the Municipal Emergency Control Group.  These are distinct arrangements and procedures from the normal, day-to-day operations, carried out by emergency services.

The Emergency Preparedness Plan establishes a Community Control Group, as well as identifies essential services to be engaged once an emergency is declared.  The Plan provides a structure for the effective implementation, coordination, and administration of extraordinary actions, arrangements, or measures that will be taken in the event of an emergency.

Family Preparedness

Is your family prepared for a major emergency?

Public safety begins at home.  Each individual is responsible for his or her safety, and the wellbeing of their family.  In our day-to-day living, disasters may seem a distant possibility.  Yet disaster can strike any community at any time.  If you are not prepared for a disaster, it can shatter your life.  Expect the unexpected and plan for it.  Make sure everyone in your family knows what to do before, during and after an emergency.

Emergency Preparedness is everyone’s business.  That’s the reality.  How do you measure up?

Everyone should be prepared to take care of themselves and their families for up to three days in the event of an emergency or disaster.  There are five steps to emergency planning for your family:

  1. Identify the risks
  2. Prepare your emergency plan
  3. Assemble your emergency kits
  4. Check other emergency plans
  5. Practise at least once a year
