NORTH STORMONT, Ontario - The Township of North Stormont is seeking individuals to submit their expression of interest for a trio of committees.
The open committees include property standards (three openings), fence viewers (four openings) and livestock valuers (two openings).
The Property Standards Committee hears appeals by persons who have been issued Orders under the Township’s Property Standards By-law. The Property Standard’s By-law establishes the minimum levels of maintenance of properties and buildings in the municipality. The committee meets, as a quasi-judicial board to hear appeals and also makes recommendations to Council respecting the Property Standards By-law.
The Line Fences Act is one of Ontario’s most historic pieces of legislation that provides a local method of arbitrating fencing disputes between neighbouring property owners.
A Fence Viewer is an individual who is appointed by Council to assist in resolving a fence dispute and issue a decision which is called an award. The Fence Viewers are authorized to only address one or both of the following situations:
The appointment of responsibility for the fencing work between the two adjoining owners; or
The description of the fence that is to be constructed or reconstructed on the boundary line, including the materials to be used.
Livestock Valuers are responsible for investigating claims of damage to livestock caused by wildlife, as outlined in the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. The Valuer completes a written report and submits a copy to the Municipal Clerk and the Owner. Knowledge of the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program along with knowledge of fair livestock value is an asset.
Please submit your expression of interest prior to March 31, 2023 to ccalder@northstormont.ca
