With a significant weather event taking place Feb. 13, and a second weekend system (Feb. 15-16) of approximately 20-30 cm forecast, Public Works has reviewed the detailed forecast and determined the North Stormont must declare a “significant weather event” until further notice.
Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) recommends all members review the use of the MMS (Minimal Maintenance Standards). With the current forecast for the coming days, the municipality will use Regulation 239/02 (MMS) to declare a “significant weather event” for both storm systems.
A “significant weather event” means an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the highways within a municipality.
This declaration will allow our Public Works staff to focus exclusively on maintenance/safe passage on roadways, with sidewalks being deemed a lesser priority. Sidewalk maintenance will commence following the weekend.
Please stay safe.
